For Our Community

Alimente's mission is grounded in inclusivity.

Alimente welcomes folks who have experienced harm from diet culture, weight stigma, or prescriptive nutrition advice. And counseling sessions are offered in English or Spanish to provide care for more members of our community.

As a self-pay specialty practice, Alimente provides tiered pricing based on a realistic cost-of-living budget. Compared to a sliding scale, there's no guess work for the client.

About Me

Hi, I'm Jason Kashdan (he/him), the resident dietitian and founder of Alimente. I earned my Master of Science in Nutrition from the Tufts University Friedman School and completed my supervised practice training through the CUNY School of Public Health

Nutrition plays a vital role in treating and preventing disease, but too often our health system doesn't prioritize its impact.

As a dietitian, I'm here to help you build sustainable habits that shift how you see food, not as a burden to fix, but as a resource to help you thrive. My own journey with Crohn's disease taught me firsthand the healing power of nutrition.

At Alimente, I blend behavior-change science with your personal values to create plans that support holistic health. Welcome to a new era of nutrition care that nourishes you.

Let's work together and nutre tu todo.

FAQ

General

What is a Registered Dietitian?

A registered dietitian is a licensed healthcare professional that specializes in food and nutrition's role in human health.

Some countries refer to their licensed dietitians as “nutritionists,” but in the U.S. the term “nutritionist” is not a regulated title.

Dietitians must hold a minimum of a graduate degree, complete nutrition and dietetics coursework from an accredited program, complete a minimum 1,000-hour supervised practice, pass a national exam, and submit continuing proffessional education throughout their careers.

How is working with a dietitian different from following an online nutrition plan or app?

Online tools can provide general information, but working with a dietitian offers personalized care based on your unique health history, preferences, and goals. We can address complex relationships with food and help you navigate challenges as they arise, including when related challenges in other areas of your life emerge.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to work with you?

No. You can schedule directly without a referral. However, if nutrition therapy becomes part of your overall healthcare plan, we can coordinate with your care team with your consent.

Is your office accessible to clients with mobility challenges?

The office is located on the second floor of a building that is only accessible by stairs. For clients with mobility needs, virtual appointments are available. Please contact me if you have any questions about access or accommodations.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

I require at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule appointments. Late cancellations may be subject to a fee. Life happens, and I aim to be flexible when possible.

Working Together

How often will we meet?

Session frequency will be discussed during our first session together. The pacing of appointments will always be tailored to your needs, even as they evolve.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, virtual sessions are available for clients who reside in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Do you give meal plans?

In some cases, when medically indicated, we may discuss more structured nutrition approaches. With some clients, we will explore meal ideas, planning strategies, or other tools to support their goals. However, rigid meal plans are not the focus of this practice.

Do you work with other members of my care team (such as my therapist, PCP, or GI doctor)?

Yes, with your consent. Coordinated care can be helpful, especially if you are managing multiple conditions. I can collaborate with other providers to support consistency and integration across your care.

A Space for You

Is this a safe place for me?

Both the office space and nutrition counseling philosophy at Alimente have been built to support your autonomy and dignity.

My practice is weight-inclusive and trauma-informed. I have contributed to nutrition care for clients with eating disorders and GI conditions through supervised training and continuing education.

Is this a good fit if I've had hard experiences with diets in the past?

Yes. Alimente uses a non-diet approach and you will never be expected to follow rigid plans. We welcome clients who have experienced harm from diet culture, weight stigma, or prescriptive nutrition advice.

Are my nutrition concerns serious enough to work with you?

You do not need a specific diagnosis or severity of symptoms to benefit from nutrition therapy. Whether you're looking to improve your relationship with food, support your mental health, or address specific concerns, you're welcome here. Schedule a discovery calI to learn more about how Alimente's approach can help.

Our Fees

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance companies can limit the scope and flexibility of nutrition care. Working outside of insurance expectations allows us to tailor care to your needs, not to insurance requirements or restrictions.

I can provide a superbill, which is a type of receipt with the necessary information for out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to ask about reimbursement for Medical Nutrition Therapy.

In most cases, you can use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to pay for nutrition therapy sessions. You may want to confirm this with your HSA or FSA provider.

What are your session fees?

Current rates for sessions and packages are available on the Pricing page.

Alimente uses tiered pricing based on the Rhode Island Standard of Need budget to ensure our services are equitable and accessible.
